Dave Hickman II is A Turning Point’s everyday superhero. Regardless of what ATP needs, when it needs it, and why it needs it, Dave answers the call. He is selfless in providing his time and effort and freely shares his knowledge and skills.

Dave started working with ATP when it was on its Waukomis campus and he was one of the founders of the group Free Hot Soup. When ATP moved to its Englewood campus, the Free Hot Soup group merged with ATP’s program and morphed into the Community Meals program.
Dave’s official title is ATP Volunteer Community Meals Director. He and his wife Ana, who is always his partner in philanthropy efforts, help whenever they can by cooking, picking up supplies, and/or serving meals. Recently he was called to pick up a pallet of water for the Sunday meal. (Dave says his vintage brown van can haul two and a half pallets of goods!!)

Through his volunteerism, Dave has built strong relationships with businesses and individuals all around the area. Because of this, Dave’s key role today with ATP is more of a community liaison, resource link, and collaboration builder. In other words, he knows people, he knows people everywhere!
When needed, Dave can make a call and secure donations of sleeping bags, propane, batteries, etc. He has surprised ATP with large donations of food, blankets, and on and on. Dave, and his wife Ana or his daughter Bridget, are the ones who usually pick up donations of furniture and deliver them to clients who need them. Dave and his coworkers at ScriptPro have taken on the significant role of setting up ATP’s annual Christmas Store.
According to Jennifer Maxell, ATP Operations Manager, “Dave (along with his wife and children) makes a real-world difference in the Kansas City community. I honestly do not know what ATP would do without people like Dave, people who care so genuinely about our community.”
